One of the core challenges for both teachers and parents when a child has been identified as SEND is to ensure an individual education plan is developed that reports to the particular needs of each child.
At the developmental level, before KS1, this is particularly difficult to achieve. SEND Inspire has been developed to solve this problem for teachers and parents.
SEND Inspire Learning Pathways- Learning development Plans
- A unique development.
- Identifies around 2000 pre-KS1 learning goals ( also sometimes called ‘steps toward’ or ‘learning outcomes’).
- These are divided into eight categories such as Maths, English, Science
- An activity sheet accompanies each learning goal. These have been developed by SEND teachers with decades of experience.
- The written and detailed Send Inspire Learning Pathways can be used as the basis for learning development for children with SEND.
How schools can use SEND Inspire Learning Pathways
Each school will have their own methods for record keeping and the Send Inspire Learning Pathways and associated Activity Plans can either slot into that, or a school could adopt the whole process.
- Schools can assess each child against the learning goals within each Learning Pathway. This will reveal good starting points for development.
- Schools can then move forwards using Activity Sheets for skills that have not yet been acquired or skills that need further development or consolidation.
- Schools can progress children through each Learning Pathway in a structured way and use the pathway to record progress.
- The SEND Learning Pathway provides a structured learning path for children which can either be used as the basis for a school’s SEND work including monitoring and reporting or slotted in as an addition to current processes.
- Each learning goal has a professionally developed Activity plan so schools can record not only that they are following a structured and relevant development path for each child, but they can also give evidence that teaching has been to a high professional standard.

Some of the feedback we have had from teachers who use the system is as follows:
‘The activity plans really helped us to focus on individual outcomes for each child.’
‘The SEND Inspire Learning Pathways system is, in our view, unique and provides us with a clearly structured process for helping children. While each child was on the same path the Learning Pathways system enabled us to provide individualised learning and to record it.’
‘As a teacher, I’m always looking for ways to cut down on preparation time but not at the cost of providing the best outcomes I can for children. This system with the Learning Pathways and the activity plans combined helped me to do and in my view is essential for any teacher wanting to have a positive impact on outcomes.’
‘My performance as a SENCO for the academy trust has been greatly improved by using the SEND Inspire Learning Pathways and activity plans throughout the school. The Learning Pathways model developmental progression in a logical and sensible way and the activity plans have helped teachers improve their focus on delivering specific outcomes for children. Our record keeping is much richer as a result, we are more efficient but most importantly believe outcomes have improved.’
